The new feature expands on the park's longstanding mission of inclusion, giving children of all abilities a hands-on, accessible way to explore the concepts of recycling, conservation, and environmental stewardship — all while having fun.
Speaking at the ceremony, Round Rock Sunrise Rotary Club's Lee Buckland highlighted the power of learning through play. "For many children, learning happens best through experience — through touching, seeing, exploring, and interacting with the world around them," Buckland said. "This pod creates exactly that kind of opportunity."
The Sustainability Pod is designed so that every child, including those with special needs, can engage with environmental education in a welcoming and barrier-free setting. The goal is to spark curiosity early — turning an afternoon at the park into conversations at home and, perhaps, the first steps toward a lifetime of environmental responsibility.
The project was made possible through a partnership between the City of Round Rock and Republic Services. "Partnerships like these demonstrate what can happen when organizations come together around a shared purpose," Buckland noted — creating spaces that enrich lives and inspire future generations.
The Play for All Park continues to stand as a model for inclusive community spaces, and the Sustainability Pod is its newest chapter.
