The work is simple but meaningful. Volunteers commit to a specific game and serve a three-hour shift, usually leading up to kickoff. Responsibilities include directing cars to parking spots, handing out dashboard tickets, and collecting cash payments. At the end of the shift, the funds are turned in, and just like that—our club has made a real contribution toward supporting the good we do throughout the year.
It’s not all hard work, though. There’s camaraderie, energy from the game-day crowd, and even the occasional refreshment run to keep everyone hydrated and cool. Volunteers often bring their own water, sunscreen, hats, and chairs to stay comfortable while lending a hand.
While the University Area Rotary Club is scaling back slightly this year due to fewer available lots, they are still inviting us to participate in select games. Even with fewer opportunities, the impact is significant. Last year alone, our participation in this fundraiser provided a strong boost to the funds we use for local and international service projects.
This effort highlights the Rotary spirit of service and fellowship—pitching in as a team, supporting one another, and turning a few hours of volunteer work into meaningful change for our community and beyond.
